Poland Seminary High School Junior students, Michael Izenour and Marik Rogenski will attend the 2017 session of American Legion Buckeye Boys State, held June 11-18, 2017 on the campus of Bowling Green State University. Christopher Ciavarella has been selected as alternate.
Buckeye Boys State is a “Hands On” workshop in the principles and organization of Ohio government. Young men attending Boys State learn about Ohio Government by operating the agencies and levels of a mythical state government; the “51st State” themselves.
Founded in 1936, Buckeye Boys State is the largest Boys State program in the nation. Nearly 1,300 of the top juniors in Ohio will attend. Through Buckeye Boys State, young men from each school will gain more knowledge about Ohio government than 75% of the general population of the state. Opportunities are available to expand skills and interest through special program segments on Ohio laws and the Court Systems; Banks and Realty Company operation; Public Utility companies; Law Enforcement; Newspaper operation; and Legislative Services, conducted by staff members versed in the area of instruction and each “mirroring” a similar real experience.
