Poland School District Goes Remote for the Rest of December

December 4, 2020

Good Morning Bulldog Families, this is Dr. Edwin Holland Interim Superintendent.

The District continues to evaluate the impact of the virus on the operation of the District.  Over the course of the past week the District has seen a significant increase in families choosing the remote option.  Some District Grade Levels indicate a higher percentage of students choosing remote over in-person instruction.

In addition, employee groups at all levels and classifications have experienced significant exposure to the virus which has impacted their attendance and ability to come to work.  While the District has made valiant attempts to cover all staff absences, it has come to a point where delivery of high quality instruction is being negatively impacted by lack of qualified substitutes and personnel.

These circumstances, combined with the operational needs of the District has led to a difficult decision being made by the Board of Education and Administration.

The District will shift to remote learning for the next two weeks, through the remainder of the calendar year.  Students will be bringing home their belongings this afternoon, and staff will prepare for remote instruction.  All PEA/OAPSE and COG Staff Members will report to their assigned buildings throughout this time.

The District will continue to prepare for the resumption of in-person instruction on January 4, 2021, should conditions allow.

Families requesting meals for next week must notify Megan Roemer at mroemer@polandschools.org by 5 PM this evening for Monday pickup.

The District will continue to monitor and report cases of COVID 19 as required by Governor DeWine’s office.  Union and PSHS Families, please notify Cathy Fedor at cfedor@polandschools.org.  McKinley and PMS Families please notify Holly Lefoer at hlefoer@polandschools.org

As a reminder, families wishing to return to in-person instruction for the 3rd grading period (January 19-March 26) must complete their final forms survey, which will be distributed by building Principals prior to Christmas Break.  Surveys must be completed no later than Midnight January 4th.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Happy Holidays and Be Safe.
