POLAND, Ohio — When second graders from Miss Lawless' class approached Principal Mr. Beard with the idea of hosting a lemonade stand, his initial response was one of hesitation; typically, such activities are reserved for at-home fun. However, touched by the students' passionate plea to support pediatric cancer research, Mr. Beard was moved to give his approval.

Second graders from Miss Lawless’ classroom at McKinley Elementary School transformed their young entrepreneurial spirit into a charitable cause by hosting a lemonade stand that raised over $400 for pediatric cancer research and treatment. Over a month, the students planned the event, integrating lessons in math and social studies to make a meaningful community impact.

Students collaborated to design a banner that would advertise their lemonade stand. They shared roles in preparing the lemonade and cups to sell to customers. Students rewarded their guests by making thank you and congratulations cards.

Teachers and staff members visited the stand to support the cause. Mr. Kempers made a visit and earned a Congratulations card for contributing!

"Our children did what kids do best: they saw a problem and came up with a sweet and simple solution. These are the kids that will change the world," said Principal Matt Beard.

Thank you to all who visited the stand and made donations!
