POLAND, Ohio — Poland Local School District conducted a full-scale safety drill on November 6, 2025 at Poland Seminary High School, in collaboration with Poland Township Police Department, Western Reserve Fire and Rescue, and federal agencies.

In addition to routine monthly safety drills, this drill is part of an initiative to review and improve upon emergency procedures. Comprehensive drills are scheduled approximately every three years to prepare student cohorts and staff members to respond efficiently in the event of an actual emergency. At the conclusion of the drills, local officials host an assembly to discuss key takeaways and reminders.

Poland Seminary High School Principal Kevin Snyder reflected on the drill:

"The safety of our Bulldog students and staff remains our top priority. As unfortunate as it is that we must prepare for such situations, this full-scale simulation was an important opportunity to assess our readiness and gather valuable feedback from all participating agencies.

We were fortunate to have the support of more than 20 safety personnel, including representatives from the Poland Township Police Department, F.B.I., Critical Response/S.W.A.T. Team, Western Reserve Fire and Rescue, and other local task forces. Together, they guided our team through multiple scenarios and provided important insights to strengthen our safety procedures.

During our debriefing, one consistent message stood out — how exceptionally well our students and staff performed. Their calm, cooperation, and professionalism were commendable. We are truly proud of them, and deeply appreciative of our families for raising such respectful and responsible young men and women."

Poland Local School District would like to thank PSHS principals Mr. Kevin Snyder, Mr. Mike Daley, Mr. Doug McGlynn, and Athletic Director Mr. Brian Banfield, for their commitment to the safety of Bulldog students and staff members. The district especially commends the student body for their performance in the safety drill.

Poland Township Police Department: Commendation for the High School Safety Drill and Continued Partnership

The following message was received from the Poland Township Police Department following the safety drill:

Dear Members of the Poland Local School District School Board,

I want to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation for the exceptional work demonstrated during the high school safety drill on November 6, 2025. The professionalism, preparedness, and seamless coordination shown by administrators, staff, and students were nothing short of outstanding. It was a powerful reflection of the district's unwavering commitment to excellence and safety.

This drill not only showcased operational strength —it reaffirmed the remarkable character of the individuals who lead and support our schools every day. The leadership, compassion, and dedication I witnessed are a testament to the caliber of people entrusted with the care and education of our youth.

I'd like to especially commend Kevin Snyder, Michael Dailey, Brian Banfield, and Doug McGlynn for their exemplary leadership. Their steady guidance, thoughtful planning, and genuine care for student well-being are evident in every interaction. The district is truly fortunate to have such high-integrity professionals at the helm.

I also want to recognize Craig Hockenberry for his extraordinary commitment to creating a safe and empowering learning environment. In my 30-plus years of service, I've rarely encountered someone with such relentless drive and heartfelt passion for student and staff safety. His influence is profound and deeply appreciated.

This event further underscores the strength of our partnership-built on mutual respect, shared purpose, and a longstanding tradition of collaboration. I am proud to stand alongside such dedicated individuals and grateful for the trust and unity we continue to build together.

With sincere appreciation,

Greg Wilson
