POLAND, Ohio — After a virtual visit with author Peter Brown, one Poland McKinley Elementary student wasted no time putting inspiration into action.

Second grade student Ben S. became an author, completing The Adventures of Me and My Cat, a six-page story filled with colorful illustrations and a humorous tale featuring his cat.

Ben took Brown’s advice to “start simple” by using basic shapes to begin his illustrations. Brown explained how shapes help him brainstorm ideas when writing a book, and Ben applied that same process to develop characters, conflict, and resolution in his own story.

Before the weekend, Ben proudly shared his work with his teacher, Mrs. Kelliher, and his classmates. The room erupted in cheers as students celebrated his creativity and hard work.

Ben, the Bulldogs are proud of you. Keep sharing your story with the world!
